  120. 1.7 PROJECT CONDITIONS
  121.  
  122.     A.  Specified product requires right to left installation;
  123.         examine project conditions, and order opposite side rolls
  124.         for left to right installations.

  142. 2.2 MATERIALS
  143.  
  144.     A.  Insulation Batts:
  145.         1.  Acceptable product:  Therm-All ConSealTab.
  146.         2.  Batt:  Glass-fiber batt insulation conforming to ASTM
  147.             C 553 and FS HH-I-558B, and bearing approval stamp of
  148.             the following:
  149.             a.  NAIMA 202-96 (North American Insulation
  150.                 Manufacturers Association).
  151.             b.  NIA 404 (National Insulation Association).
  152. NOTE ** The manufacturer recommends the following facing
  153.         type as minimum acceptable for most building
  154.         applications; other facing are available, ranging
  155.         from premium quality to economy.  Consult with
  156.         manufacturer for options, and review performance
  157.         characteristics for other facings.
  158.         3.  Facing:  White polypropylene scrim kraft, standard
  159.             duty metallized, adhered to one face of batt to form
  160.             nominal 6 inches (152 mm) wide continuous exposed tab
  161.             along one long edge, and nominal 6 inches (152 mm)
  162.             wide continuous non-adhered flap along other long
  163.             edge.
  164.         4.  Flame spread rating, in accordance with ASTM E 84:
  165.             25, maximum.
  166.         5.  Water vapor transmission, in accordance with ASTM E
  167.             96:  0.141 grains per hour per square foot (0.098
  168.             grams per hour per square meter).
  169. NOTE ** Retain one of the following two sub-paragraphs to
  170.         specify batt thickness.
  171.         6.  Thickness:  4 inches (101 mm), nominal, having
  172.             nominal R-value 13 (2.28 metric equivalent) in
  173.             accordance with ASTM C 236.
  174.         7.  Thickness:  6 inches (152 mm), nominal, having
  175.             nominal R-value 19 (3.34 metric equivalent) in
  176.             accordance with ASTM C 236.
  177. NOTE ** Retain one of the following two sub-paragraphs to
  178.         specify batt width.
  179.         8.  Batt width: Nominal 48 inches (1.2 m).
  180.         9.  Batt width: Nominal 72 inches (1.8 m).
  181.         10. Roll length:  150 feet ( 45.7 m).

  183.     B.  Thermal Blocking:  Extruded polystyrene sheet conforming
  184.         to ASTM C 578; thickness 1 inch (25 mm) nominal.

  187. PART 3  EXECUTION
  188.  
  189. 3.1 INSTALLATION
  190.  
  191.     A.  Install insulation in accordance with manufacturer's
  192.         instructions.
  193.  
  194.     B.  Field-forming of pockets in insulation is not permitted.
  195.  
  196.     C.  Install insulation, parallel to roof slope and
  197.         perpendicular to purlins, progressing from eave to ridge.
  198. NOTE ** Delete the following paragraph if project
  199.         conditions require left to right installation, or
  200.         left to right installation in addition to right to
  201.         left installation.  "Opposite side" ConSealTab
  202.         rolls will be required for left to right
  203.         installations.
  204.  
  205.     D.  Install insulation rows beginning from right to left.
  206.  
  207.     E.  Roll out insulation using pipe or other device inserted
  208.         through cardboard core of insulation roll as spindle;
  209.         ensure that exposed tab trails direction of progress.
  210. NOTE ** Delete the following paragraph if thermal blocking
  211.         not required.
  212.  
  213.     F.  Place thermal blocks at end-to-end butt joints, covering
  214.         joint a minimum of 4 inches (101 mm) each side of joint.
  215.  
  216.     G.  Adjust each row of insulation to lay flat across purlins.
  217.  
  218.     H.  As each successive row of insulation is placed, snug roll
  219.         against previous row, pulling up exposed tab between the
  220.         two rows.
  221.  
  222.     I.  Beginning at end of row, pull back long edge of batt on
  223.         previous row, allowing exposed tab to fall into place;
  224.         smooth exposed tab down against facing from previous row,
  225.         ensuring that tab lays flat, then drop batt from previous
  226.         row back into place, ensuring that batts are snug against
  227.         each other.

  229. 3.2 PROTECTION OF INSTALLED PRODUCTS
  230.  
  231.     A.  Do not allow exposure of installed insulation to
  232.         moisture; install only the quantity of insulation in a
  233.         single period of construction activity that will be
  234.         covered by roofing in that period.
